It was lovely to have some warmer weather in August, and to hold some activities outside, it somehow makes whatever you are doing more relaxing and enjoyable and our afternoon tea outside always feels a treat.
Lollipop Bingo was fun for everyone to enjoy, and some board games and scrabble were also enjoyed outside. Residents had several games of Boules in the shade of the trees.
We have had some lovely musical events. Steve Holford entertained us with some great songs.
Hazel Prior joined us again on a wonderful summers day playing some lovely tunes on the harp. Hazel was very touched by words of appreciation from residents. Hazel also read us part of one of her novels with some musical accompaniment and talked about her new novel about to be released. It was delightful to have her playing in the garden.
A new musical chap called Steve Walters joined us, he brought his organ along and played a lively selection of music which got some residents dancing. He also played a medley of songs to get us singing and several tunes in between which we had to guess the title of, it was a lively and fun hour of music.
Our vegetables have been doing well and the courgettes have been very popular but are now going over. Cucumbers have taken their place and lots of tomatoes are still ripening. Onions, carrots and peppers are continuing to grow.
The Old Vicarage is now a member of the Combwich and Otterhampton Garden Club, which enables our residents to enter the Flower Show and to go to any of their monthly meetings. The talk this month was on Herbal Medicine and was very interesting. We enjoyed being at the meeting, sampling some home-made savoury scones, talking to other members and one of our residents even won the raffle!
Residents enjoyed the car boot sale at the Stockland Club with craft stalls and cakes and meeting other people from our village. It made a nice change and the hot dogs were particularly good!
The residents have been busy making their crafts to exhibit for the Stockland Flower and Craft show on 7th September. Several residents have made lovely felt brooches from felt they'd crafted themselves. Other items handmade by the residents to be exhibited include a jumper with rabbits, a knitted scarf, a bag and glasses cases. The residents own vegetables grown from seed to be exhibited will be; onions, carrots, peppers and cucumber. We are also entering some floral displays. Hoping that we'll be winning some prizes again this year so wishing everyone the best of luck!
